Our Journey
Chauncey Cattle Company was created to produce American Angus beef for the consumer in a way that families knew where their beef is coming from. Chauncey Cattle Company was formed through Browns Farm at Chauncey, Inc.
In 2009, Roger decided to run an all-Angus herd. The farm purchased 30 pairs of pure-bred Angus from Weatherly Angus Farms to begin this Angus journey. During that time, Browns Farm was leaving the bulls in the pasture year-round resulting in calving all year. Each year, the best heifers from that year’s calf crop were retained on the farm, building the heard year by year. By 2017, Browns Farm had grown to 300 head of brood cattle. All cattle were home grown here on the farm.
Once Browns Farm reached the number of cattle we felt was max capacity, we started putting them on calving cycles to be able to artificially inseminate cattle for genetically improved calves. The Angus Association has done a wonderful job keeping updated expected progeny differences available to improve areas such as Carcass Weight, Fat, Marbling, Yield Grade, and Rib-Eye Area. We can use this data to grow livestock that produce a steak that is prime grade. This means steaks are more tender, juicy, and flavorful and are extremely enjoyable to eat!
